In 1914, the Krasnov family established the SureFit company in Philadelphia, PA and created the ready-made slipcover industry. Prior to the debut of SureFit, all furniture covers were expensive, custom made products created by furniture tailors – known as “summer dress”. Since air conditioning was not widely used at this time, and upholstered furniture was made of heavy fabrics such as wools and velvets, in the summer months people were looking for ways to protect their furniture from the heat and sweat. This was the perfect time for a ready-made product to be sold in department stores across the country. In the 1930’s the business was growing and needed more space. They decided to relocate to the Lehigh Valley, in the city of Bethlehem where they would have enough space. As the business continued to grow, they created a vertical manufacturing facility that made fabric and converted it into slipcovers. In the 1950’s clear vinyl material started being used for slipcovers. They were stiff and sticky. While protective, they were not fashionable or functional. SureFit remained focused on fabrics and continued to grow its business. With continued innovation and development, SureFit introduced stretch knit slipcovers and solidified its place as the leader in the slipcover category. As a home textile leader for over 100 years, SureFit has transformed itself into a full line home décor company offering the latest styles, colors and fabrications in categories encompassing all areas of the home – inside and out!
